some notes:
*started bjj/judo when was 12
*got black belt in bjj after 8 yrs
*when he was 17 he was competing about every weekend
*started training with fabio gurgel when he was brown belt, but had trained with him before because he was already in alliance
*loves training, enjoys it. thinks he loves it more than others. thinks it's the secret to his success.
*sparring most important, but you have to have an idea of what your doing, drill, etc.
*to get good fast, reccomends training as much you can. prefers not to put numbers on it, but recommends min of 2 classes per day and sparring 1 hr per class
*tips for someone who wants to be world champ: know it's not easy, do more on the mat than other people, enjoy training, train as much as you can (he had one year where he trained 4 times a day), keep wanting to train more esp if you are able to, enjoy it all
*gotta do new stuff to improve your game, do your best to master situations and reactions to it and backup plans for it
*doesn't play half guard much because lost an important tournament at brown belt because he was stuck in half guard for 8 minutes
*play your game. don't play into the other person's game and headbutt with him where he may have the advantage.
*tries to do same things gi and no gi. but of course there are a few exceptions where technique works in one but not in the other.
*don't let your opponent know if you're tired (more so in competition than with your training partners). believe you're opponent is more tired than you because it can boost your confidence.

this is the fight i'm looking most fwd to. it's just an interesting match up. cung le is a proven winner who is very technical with kicks, his main weapon, something never seen in mma. silva is more of an agressive...i almost wanna say brawler...who is more of a puncher, but also used to be brutal with knees, as well as kicks on downed opponents (something legal in pride, but illegal in ufc). i can't call it. but i almost want cung le to win just because of his unique (to mma) fighting style.
shogun x hendo
should be a very aggressive fight with two guys who like to punch. i dont think hendo can box with shogun, but he has proven to be very successful with that powerful right hand, which he puts everything into. and it only takes one of those hendo punch to put away an opponent. but if i were betting, i'd put my money on shogun.

Yep, Cain seemed more interested in trying to stand and kickbox instead of grappling with JDS for some reason. Cain's only competent, at best, at that kind of stand up fighting IMO.
So yep, JDS knocked him the fuck out in about a minute.
JDS takes on winner of Brock/Overeem. I like Brock, but I don't like his chances against a good, big striker, as are both JDS and Overeem. So I'm gonna say JDS will end up fighting Overeem. And if by some fluke, Brock beats Overeem, and faces JDS, I'm sure JDS will knock Brock the fuck out.

got damn that was great. nonstop action. good exchanges in close range (my pref for boxing). ultra slick technical groundwork that never got boring.
it wouldve been a draw in my book if it werent for the 3rd round where diaz's warrior spirit was apparent as he turned it up in contrast to bj penn who looked tired and defeated =(

that main event was just weird shit.
first,
besides speed and smoothness, money didn't look impressive at all. but watever.
next,
ortiz does some weird headbutt thing even tho he was winning the exchange, teeing off on mayweather who was on the ropes.
then,
during the ref intervention money cheapshots ortiz, knocking him out, while ortiz is clearly waiting for ref to restart the fight.
as if that weren't enuff,
money was in denial about cheapshot during the post fight interview.
then gets hostile n blows up at merchant. ok so whats new?
my favorite part of the whole thing - that's whats new,
merchant tells mayweather he wishes he were 50 years younger he would kick his ass. lol.
and then what completely blows my mind,
the old man interviews ortiz, and ortiz is totally fine with losing by a cheapshot like that. called it a miscommunication, said "it happens." is the guy stupid or something? was it a work? wtf?

intially i was disgusted with the whole thing. but on second thought i'm ok with the kid getting beat down. according to news article the kid got mouthy after he fought the man's son and at one point said "i would like to see that," referring to getting knocked out by the old man. in that context, the knockdown is pretty sweet.
its not my way now, but as i used to say:
if you're gonna run your mouth, prepare to GET SERVED.
one of my biggest pet peeves:
peeps who think they can run their mouth without being held accountable for their bullshit

i like this idea
Fans Want Finishes
back in the day i liked the idea of fights only going to finish. but in reality, sometimes those fights just took too damn long and sometimes were marathons of boring. but if u keep the time limit, then just call it a draw if neither finishes the other after so long - fucking genius. works for me.
its like when i used to compete: if i didnt finish the guy, especially if outcome was determined by judges decisions or advantages, i never considered it a win. same thing if i dint get finished or lost by jd or advantages, i dint consider it a loss.
