Man, I love this thing. Really, except for graphing, it does just about everything my TI graphing calculators did...and then some. It can display input and answers in fractions (which comes in handy for me these days). The display for radicals is a lot clearer than I've had in the past. Like the graphing caluclators, it has multiple lines so you can easily visualize where you've been if you must do a progression of calculations. It gives true values for irrational numbers if you want. That is, it displays "pi" as "pi" - not the APPROXIMATION of pi as 3.14whateverwhateverwhatever or "1 + radical 5" as "1 + radical 5" which is more correct than some decimal approximataion of 1 + radical 5 (though you can shift mode, and have it calcualate that if you like). And to top it all off, it's lightweight, and I don't have to buy batteries for it because it's solar powered. But the best part is I stumbled across it during an emergency stop at Rite Aid for some unrelated item last week, and it cost me less than 20 bucks! The timing was perfect because I was a few days away from blowing 100 bucks (or whatever they cost these days) on another graphing calculator.

Some people think the mma fight game came full circle when stand-up strikers who learned a little grappling began to dominate the pure bjj stylists. The bjj stylists, in turn, totally owned early mma history by one-sidedly finishing reps from all other styles, including traditional martial arts such as karate. I would argue that the game has only now come full circle: now that a karateka is the new UFC champion, and possibly the best p4p fighter in the world, and got there by time and again imposing his will on opponents by using a style that had become somewhat of a joke in mma circles - karate.

Star Trek 2009

I never got into Star Trek, though I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it had something to do with the 1-hr commitment needed to watch each episode. That may have been part of it, but there must be more. I've always enjoyed getting lost in a good story, regardless of time commitment.



Maybe it was because Star Trek was always low on action and special fx, and what little there was was always cheesy. Also, dialogue far exceeded action. Not that I dislike dialogue. In fact, I've always loved good dialogue. Similarly, cheese can be good. But it's the action that would have drawn me in to anything sci-fi: lasers, gadgets, creatures, missions, wars, stuff like that.



Truth be told, it's probably all of the above and more. But who cares.

What's important is Star Trek XI is fucking cool. I was able to follow despite my limited Star Trek knowledge. I learned some cool shit about the characters and some of their origins. For example, I didn't know Spock was half human. I also saw that the cadets that went on to become the original crew were baptized by fire. This movie made me an instant fan of all The Original Series (TOS) stuff I had always missed out on. Though admittedly, I wouldn't know if anything was inconsistent with the TV storyline since I'm not familiar with it, for one, and for another, there was the whole time travelling alternate realities thing going on.
