Lyoto Machida Tribute

The New UFC LHW Champion of the World...Lyoto Machida!

Machida vs Evans HL by Machinemen
Fwd to @ 5:00 to get to the fight HL.
The rest is good, but its just build up.
Machinemen has a habit of dragging out the buildup far too long in his vids.

Another Machida x Evans HL
Rashad eats his words.

Dana White post-fight comments
Highlights: It's the Lyoto Machida Era...He might be the most talented fighter on the planet...In the whole fight Rashad hit him twice...We ran stats on Machida and he's the least hit fighter in MMA history...

Dana White on Machida. Interview from Dec 2008.
He said Machida could be the best p4p fighter in the world once he feels comfortable in the octagon. I also knew it was a matter of time before he was champ: Machida's skill and strategy are undeniable. Also, Dana has some good points about the fight w/ Tito: the karate guy couldn't be taken down by the wrestler; in fact, the karate guy manhandled the wrestler during tie-ups.

Machida training for UFC 98
Looks like the plyometric training paid off (3:04); he had explosiveness in this fight that was previously lacking. The training with the olympic judo champ (0:54) and muay thai guy (2:41) was prbly pretty helpufl too. :)

A good highlight film by Genghis Con

Another Machida highlight I enjoy. By thedrinkableone.
I've posted it here before.

World Champion

Some people think the mma fight game came full circle when stand-up strikers who learned a little grappling began to dominate the pure bjj stylists. The bjj stylists, in turn, totally owned early mma history by one-sidedly finishing reps from all other styles, including traditional martial arts such as karate. I would argue that the game has only now come full circle: now that a karateka is the new UFC champion, and possibly the best p4p fighter in the world, and got there by time and again imposing his will on opponents by using a style that had become somewhat of a joke in mma circles - karate.
